How to send a parcel from Australia step by step

Delivery from the other side of the world seems complicated only at first glance. Regardless of what you are sending – personal belongings to relatives, commercial cargo for business, or a purchase from an Australian online store – with Semero the whole process is reduced to a few simple steps:

  1. Order placement and calculation. You contact us and provide the weight, dimensions, and nature of the cargo. We calculate the exact cost and select the optimal route.
  2. Parcel delivery to the warehouse. If you purchase goods from a store, you specify our warehouse address in Australia as the delivery point. If it is a personal or commercial shipment, the cargo is delivered to our warehouse or picked up by a courier.
  3. Document preparation and labeling. You do not need to independently deal with the nuances of filling out international waybills. We take care of preparing all accompanying documents and proper labeling to avoid delays in transit.
  4. Transportation and tracking. The parcel is sent to Ukraine. You receive a unique tracking number and can see every stage of cargo movement in real time. Thanks to reliable logistics, delivery takes only 5–7 days.
  5. Customs clearance. The most important stage, which we fully handle. We remind you that under Ukrainian law, parcels with a value over 150 euros are subject to taxation (duty and VAT). Our declarants will independently handle customs clearance, calculate payments, and help you quickly pass customs control without your personal presence.
  6. Receipt in Ukraine. You do not need to go to customs warehouses. After successful border clearance, the parcel is delivered to the specified address directly to your door or to a convenient pickup point.

Customs duty and VAT charges for parcels over 150 euros

Ukraine has a duty-free import limit for international parcels (including from Australia) – 150 euros.

If the total value of items in your parcel exceeds this amount, it becomes subject to taxation. Taxes are charged not on the entire parcel value, but only on the excess amount (the difference between the parcel value and the 150 euro limit).

You need to pay two mandatory charges:

  • Duty – 10% of the excess amount.
  • VAT – 20% of the excess amount plus the calculated duty.

Simple calculation example

Let’s assume you ordered a product or received a parcel worth 250 euros.

  1. Find the excess amount:
    250 € − 150 € = 100 €
(taxes are calculated from this amount)
  2. Calculate duty (10%):
    100 € × 10% = 10 €
  3. Calculate VAT (20%):
    (100 € + 10 €) × 20% = 22 €
  4. Total taxes:
    10 € + 22 € = 32 €

All customs calculations are converted into hryvnias at the official NBU exchange rate on the day the declaration is submitted.

What are the delivery times from Australia to Ukraine?

The company “Semero” delivers in just 5–7 days. Considering modern logistics realities and the large distance between the countries, this is one of the fastest and most efficient options on the market.

Thanks to optimized routes, we are able to ensure maximum speed so that your parcels arrive in Ukraine without unnecessary delays.

Shipping via DHL, UPS, FedEx from Australia to Ukraine

We are official partners of leading global operators – DHL, UPS, and FedEx. This makes it possible to use their reliable infrastructure but on much more favorable and simplified terms.

Why shipping from Australia via Semero is more convenient than contacting these companies directly:

  • More favorable rates. Due to large volumes of regular shipments, we receive exclusive corporate discounts from DHL, UPS, and FedEx. Therefore, the final delivery cost through us is often lower than when contacting these services directly as a private individual.
  • “Turnkey” documents and customs. Large express services operate under strict regulations – they will not correct invoice errors or assist with customs clearance if difficulties arise. We fully take care of all these matters, including document preparation and communication with customs in Ukraine.
  • Personal service. Instead of long waits on international support lines, you receive direct contact with a Semero manager who controls every step of your parcel from Melbourne or Sydney to your door in Ukraine.

Documents for receiving a parcel from Australia in Ukraine: for individuals and for businesses

The set of documents depends on whether the shipment from Australia is issued to a private individual or to a company.

1. For individuals (personal parcels and online purchases)

If you are waiting for a parcel as a private individual, the following list is required for successful customs clearance and receipt:

  • Identity documents: passport and tax ID (identification code) for Ukrainian citizens. If the recipient is not a citizen of Ukraine – only a passport is required.
  • Proof of parcel value: payment receipt, bank statement, or printout (screenshot) from the store website clearly ing the purchase price. This is necessary for customs limit verification.
  • Transport waybill and invoice: these documents are issued by the carrier. They can be received in advance electronically by email or directly at the reception.
  • Customs declaration form M16: a mandatory form for parcels of individuals. The form and sample of completion are provided by the carrier.
  • Receipt of customs payments: required if the value of goods in the parcel exceeds the non-taxable limit of 150 euros and duties and VAT have been charged.

You can prepare all documents, fill in the M16 declaration, and make payments yourself or significantly simplify the process by using the customs broker services of Semero.

2. For businesses (legal entities and sole proprietors)

For commercial cargo or goods issued to a company, a standard accreditation and customs clearance package is required:

  • Customs accreditation card (if the company is importing for the first time, we at Semero help arrange it quickly).
  • Contract (agreement) with the Australian supplier and its specification.
  • Invoice – a bill from the sender with a clear description of the goods, quantity, and value.
  • Transport document – international air waybill from DHL, UPS, or FedEx, provided by us.
  • Payment confirmation document (bank payment order confirming currency transfer to the supplier).
  • Technical description or product passport (required for accurate determination of the UKT ZED code).

Important: You do not need to independently deal with the complexities of customs procedures. The Semero declaration team will pre-check all your documents, help correctly calculate payments, and carry out fast “turnkey” clearance of the cargo.

How to track the parcel and customs clearance status?

From the moment the cargo is dispatched from Australia until it arrives in Ukraine, you fully control every stage of transportation. There are two simple and reliable tools for this:

1. Tracking by tracking number (parcel route)

After the parcel is processed and handed over for shipment, you receive a unique international tracking number.

  • Since we ship cargo through partner networks of global leaders, tracking can be done directly on the official websites or apps of DHL, UPS, or FedEx (depending on which service handles the transportation).
  • You can also use convenient tracking on our website or any universal international parcel tracking services in real time.

2. Customs clearance status control

When the parcel arrives in Ukraine, it enters the customs control zone. At this stage, you can find out the clearance status in several ways:

  • Through your personal Semero manager. You do not need to call customs or figure out internal statuses yourself. Our broker, who accompanies the clearance, promptly informs you about every change: document acceptance, customs payment accrual (for parcels over 150 euros), and release of the cargo into free circulation.
  • Automatic notifications. You receive up-to-date updates (by email or messenger) about the arrival of the parcel at the customs warehouse, inspection completion, and transfer for delivery within Ukraine.

To ensure the customs clearance stage goes as quickly as possible, it is enough to provide payment receipts or invoices in advance. While the parcel is flying from Sydney or Melbourne, our brokers are already preparing all documents, and clearance takes minimal time.

Frequently asked questions

There are several main reasons for the detention of a parcel:

  • There were mistakes in the documents (wrong recipient, missing some data, the content of the parcel does not correspond to the information in the documents).
  • The content of the parcel violates the laws of Ukraine.
  • The cost of the parcel exceeds the duty-free limit.

How do I get a parcel held up at customs?

If there are mistakes or missing information in the documents, you need to contact the sender and ask him to correct the data. After that, you have to make sure that the correct information is displayed at the delivery service and afterward received by the customs authorities.

Goods and substances that violate the laws of Ukraine may not be brought into the country. Depending on the goods confiscated from you, you may face court proceedings and fines.

Parcels that cost more than 150 euros must go through customs clearance, and their recipient must pay customs fees.
